A mentee of Sharon Van Etten with a mesmerizing style equally parts Broadcast as is the post-punk lineage of her label, Captured Tracks, Scout Gillett has a strange alchemy going on in her sound as she blinkers a “signal” toward the release of her debut album, no roof no floor. Perhaps that’s the gothic Midwesterness of Kansas City uprooting into Brooklyn showing through her art and image, but you can’t help but hear something entirely and uniquely spellbinding as her soaring vocal archs meet spectral synths and a grated new wave bassline that lift this siren song above limitations. Informed by transcendent spirits, they lead her to her path, and hers alone.
