Margaritas Podritas – “No Quiero ser Madre”

“It is a song about unwanted pregnancy, the thought of having an embryo developing inside you against your will,” says Margaritas Podritas guitarist and vocalist Esli Meuly alongside bassist and vocalist Carolina Enriquez. “It is about being scared, and the feeling you’d get when you imagine it inside you, not being able to stop its growth right away, not knowing what to do, screaming, hoping it is a bad dream.” Torn apart in just under two minutes, “No Quiero Ser Madre” – the Hermosillo, Mexico-based quartet’s contribution to Suicide Squeeze’s Pinks & Purples digital singles series – is righteously raged in our current turmoil surrounding reproductive rights. Fellow guitarist Poncho López and drummer Rafael Armenta help Meuly and Enriquez channel the most ugly, unkempt and unafraid corners of decades’ from punk and hardcore’s underground where all of its energy is every ounce fueled in political statement.

Margaritas Podritas’ “No Quiero Ser Madre” single is available now on Suicide Squeeze.
