Hot off a set at this year’s This Is Hardcore and booked to open for Vein.fm and Candy on their upcoming fall tour, straight edgers Regulate are ones to watch since building a rumble in 2013 in the NY scene. There’s even more reason to do so now that they’ve signed to Flatspot Records for the release of their self-titled debut, due out at September’s end. “Why Can’t We?” hears vocalist Sebastian Paba, guitarists Michael Botti and Jarred Chan, and drummer Harry Corrigan doubling down on the ethos and digging their feet further into their stance. “We don’t have to be afraid / We don’t have to be like them / We don’t have to be angry / We don’t have to play pretend.” Fast, furious with their fire perfectly contained by producer Jon Markson (Drug Church, Soul Blind) with a flair for their own identity in Latin music bubbling beneath, this one knows and stays true to the self.
