Where Mosquito arguably didn’t fully realize itself in doing so in its ambitions, “Burning”, the second single from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ first album in nine years, Cool It Down, already achieves what Karen O, Nick Zinner, and Brian Chase sought to do in putting a punk fever to tell and mirror ball crystalline onto a spiritual alter. Engulfed by memory, Karen O is the patron saint of effigy, guiding the path of flames around her. Her words and the music fuel hot, but never touch the surface of what holds most valuable to us.
