We’re told to give, but it can feel like it’s mostly take. It’s the unfortunate stage of world we live in, and the tug and pull of being stuck in a chronic transaction with everything and everyone one around us is something Gulfer’s mathematically-processed emo rock is trying to resolve for “x” on “Greetings”, the first half of the Montreal band’s latest coupling of singles. Though guitarist Joe Therriault is knotted by where we collectively fall short, its bookended introspection with “Barely” is something completely outside being stuck in mind. Guitarist Vincent Ford leaves answering life’s quandaries open-ended without another thought over a crash tumble of punk-pop energy and woozy ellipses. It can be a whirlwind, but maybe not for us to answer for in one think session.
