“It’s so hard to be judged by all of the TV screens / Get that camera out my face ‘cause they be lady things / I’m a natural brown prom queen,” sings Sudan Archives mastermind Brittney Parks on “NBPQ (Topless)”, the album title-referencing latest preview off her newest LP, Natural Brown Prom Queen. A “titties out” reclamation on being anything but average, it’s hard to image how anyone would perceive Parks’ talents to be just that, as she’s an all-encompassing original who raps, sings, transcends genre expectations and crosses culture lines from her own anomalistic vantage point in buoyant self-celebration.
Sudan Archives’ Natural Brown Prom Queen will be released September 9th on Stones Throw.
