As indie rock’s resident gonzo, whenever Alex G hits his sweet spot among the weirdness in that strum, it’s game over. “Runner”, the latest single from the prolific Philly artist’s forthcoming album, God Save the Animals, is one of those moments where all the idiosyncratic nature of the Alex Giannascoli multiverse of sound comes together effortless to do just that. Backed by guitarist Sam Acchione, keyboardist Molly Germer, bassist John Heywood, and drummer Tom Kelly, the listen weaves together a warm rustic malady, wiley lyricism, and the occasional freak show Alex G pulls in to introduce us to his trustworthy man.
