Welcome back to the totally freaked out sonic psychosis that is the Mars Volta. After 10 long years away (which at least amounted to a couple of reunions between Cedrick Bixler-Zavalva and Omar Rodríguez-López with their seminal hardcore band At the Drive-In,) the duo have reunited in their post-ATDI form and brought with them “Blacklight Shine”. Astutely described by Bixler-Zavalva as “a wave of rolling blackouts washing memories onto shore, a heartbeat that still remembers everything,” the listen is generally impossible to box in as usual as they traverse a tripped out sky and their Latinx music roots pulling levitating bodies back to ground.

The Mars Volta’s “Blacklight Shine” single is available now on Clouds Hill.
