Perhaps you’re like me, sitting here wondering what a Yeah Yeah Yeahs song in 2022 might sound like given the band’s lengthy nine year hiatus from recording since 2013′s polarizing Mosquito, but “Spitting Off the Edge of the World” smashes that thought, as well as bashes into all the right feelings born yesterday and still very alive today. Being on other side of nostalgia can be a vapid undertaking, but for Karen O, Nick Zinner, and Brian Chase (as well as in collaboration with art pop extraordinaire Perfume Genius in this instance,) the NYC indie scene coolmakers shape-shift into their future selves with a booming anthem produced by TV On the Radio’s Dave Sitek that stares down the void with a burning cool, and takes control of whatever awaits on the other side. Space, time, and the continuum – Meet your match.
